Immerse yourself in Tamil

Learn to speak Tamil in one weekend in New York City

New Date 19 -21  October 2001
Place: Dumont Plaza Hotel, New York.

The Language Immersion Institute of the State University of New York (SUNY-New Paltz) has announced the inclusion of Tamil in the list of languages taught by the institute.

Language Immersion is an innovative technique in teaching languages. The aim is to teach students to speak a language in a short period of time. There is less emphasis on grammar and alphabet. Instructors use creative, and fun methods to teach students conversation skills. Students are totally immersed in the language during the course. At the end of a weekend immersion, students will be able to communicate in the language.

The Language Immersion Institute of the State University of New York (SUNY-New Paltz) has several years of experience teaching Immersion Courses to corporate, and government officials who work in countries where these languages are spoken. Twenty languages are taught including Spanish, French, German, Russian, Japanese, Korean, and many others including some exotic languages.

This year, Tamil has been added to the weekend courses at the Dumont Plaza Hotel in New York City. The fee is an affordable $295.00. The course is meant primarily for commuting students. If accommodation is needed, the hotel should be contacted directly.

This course is a collaborative effort between the Language Immersion Institute of New Paltz, and the South Asia Institute of Columbia University. The tutor is an experienced Tamil language instructor who, among others, has taught US embassy personnel, and foreign researchers in Tamil Nadu.

The course is suited for adult children and spouses of Tamil immigrants who do not speak Tamil as well as others who wish to learn to speak Tamil.

Classes are limited to 12 students only per course. Early application is recommended.
