N.B.: There is something seriously wrong with the Rotary figures. Clearly they do not reflect the full extent of the loss of life in the NorthEast, not to mention leaving out Mullaitivu entirely. The govt figure of total dead is somewhat over 30000. According to a Daily Mirror report on jan 26, " worst hit Ampara", that district alone had 10436 officially reported eadths, "even higher than the combined figure of the southern and Western provinces--- 10052 and 312 respectively"
