Salt March is not a compatible comparision. The key to Salt March was NOT make consideable economic damage on the Empire. But it was a powerful symbolic gesture. The India Ocean and the salt therof belongs to the Indian - that was the pulse of the nation! Gandhi had his fingers on the pulse not the imperialists. That was the crucial point made here. The revenue from the salt was NOT the real worry of the English. But they were wiser. They understood the point that the match was over. They called for around Table Conference for a "possible transfer of power".

Boycotting Seenisambol would make a similar political point or economic impact is another matter totally? IN terms of protest it may hardy have any symbolic clout.

Gandhi was shrewder in understanding how the English mind ticked.

Keep up this campaign in good spirits, Cholan. Well Done!. It is great to see a positive response from the BFT. I am sure there will be more to follow and in due course this campaign will gather great momentum and provide dividend in the form of PEACE for the suffering Eelam Tamils.

Certainly EVERY Dollar/Pound/Euro etc. that goes to the GoSL killing machine must be denied.

However regarding Gandhi's Salt March: it was not about trying to affect the British economy at all: rather it was a protest against the British Salt Tax which forced poor people to buy salt at prices which they could barely afford as well as (and perhaps more importantly) about asserting the right and freedom of every Indian to freely collect their own salt from the coasts of their own country.

Gandhi’s Salt protest had an extremely powerful effect on the consciousness of Indians as well as the British. Similarly, every gesture as R. Cholan suggests, however small or even token, does have a powerful awakening effect on our consciousness.
