Discussion(Article: The Sri Lanka Situation) Anonymous (21 Jul. 2008) Referendum should include all the tamils of eelam who left ceylon to save their life since 1958 racial riots including 1977 and 1983 onwards due to war. These tamils are interal to the population of eelam. It is idiotic to claim that majority of srilanka are sinahklese and hence they rule and minorities follow like slaves.Tamils have never been part of srilanka but they are a nation on their own-tamileelam. If jews of germany and res of europe with the help of terroist leader begin in 1948 can create a new nation why not tamils of eelam in their home land of eelam which they ruled themselves for thosand of year? ttpian (21 Jul. 2008) it has happened of different format of scale(s) for white people means 100 cmts= 1 Mter for the rest of people,it may vary based on the time table of white people Ram Mohan (21 Jul. 2008) The appeal to UN or Major countries is a pipe dream without understanding the ground realities of the world order. UN is a club of countries where minor decisions are taken to satisfy the wishes of the majority of member countries and important decisions are taken to suit the interests of the powerful countries or the veto carrying members of the security council. Even this ground reality is violated if the most powerful think otherwise as was the case with the Iraq war. We cannot have a referundum unless we are recognised as a nation and granted the right of self determination. It is a dream to expect the rules to change to accomodate this. But in reality two types of changes have been happening. One is to be sponsored by the most powerful and for that the most powerful should have some benefit from us like oil or our willingness to surrender our independence and provide slave labour. This had been the route of many of the new countries like Kosovo, East Timor, countries of the former Soviet Union, countries of the former Yugoslavia etc. The 2nd group of countries include those who offered armed resistance for liberation against oppression, with or without foreign assistance like Cuba, Vietnam, Eriteria etc. and we fall into this category not by choice but by lack of opportunities otherwise. Though there are plenty of voices for political solution and peaceful transfer of power, there had been no practical examples of significance. The very recent example of Nepal also has ended in a failure after possible compromises were offered due to the manipulation of our big brother and bully. It is so unfortunate that the minorities found excuses to join the present unholy alliance which will not grant them even the principled self determination the Maoists offered. One would expect the Maoists to opt out of the government unless the Maoists also join the bandwaggon of opportunism in which case the struggle of the Nepalese people will be in vain. We are fortunate with a leadership but unfortunately the success seems to more and more linked with a new world order. We need not lose hope as a new world order cannot be delayed due to the problems of climate change. It is not accidental that Liberation of peoples and Nations is linked with the Liberation of the Environment. We need to work hard towards this without pipedreams, without imagining ways to please big brother and bully and without even expecting magical successes from the Liberation fighters. Sengodan.M (22 Jul. 2008) The people of Tamil Eelam have only two options. One to live as a Free people in a totally independent or highly autonomous Tamil Eelam and the other to get assimilated ( whether gradually or quickly is a matter of time-scale) or enslaved as second class citizens (as already spelt out by Sarath Fonseka reflecting the thinking of all Sinhala Nationalists). There is absolutely no third option. Any third option suggested ( like a solution acceptable to ALL communities by India) is only a mirage and we should have no delusions about same. Hence the choice is obvious. Once we accept this reality, we should constantly prepare ourselves for it whatever the cost and whatever the circumstances. It is rather sad that even after over thirty years of struggle, we still have to talk of preparing ourselves. This is because we have still not achieved sufficient unity, we are still not fully determined, found to be wavering at the slightest setback, and yet not fully clear about the ways and means of achieving our objectives. We have to learn and re-learn things. We have to be at it. If we resolve NEVER TO GIVE UP, we SHALL WIN. It is only a matter of time for the future to be ours. ttpian (22 Jul. 2008) It is noteworthy to see ,srilankan admn in cross roads:they were smart enough to "share" the bed with china&pakisthan@the same day-it seems that both china &India dictates terms for "sharing "the bed-this is evident from signing up deals of development programmes with "shareholders" of srilanka. It is right time to act-one of the "share holder" can be snatched into our homeland Respond |
