Gandhi asked the question. Tamils will do well if they too asked the question -

Are we fighting to change things? Or are we fighting to punish?

The warcrimes fiasco is a side-show for lawyers to make money. If Mandela and Tutu and others chose the path of crimes against humanity case and wanted to punish the atrocious white supremacist instead of Truth& Reconciliation what would have been the state of play?

There are many SL Tamils who have many qualifications and think they are educated. Sadly enliightened Tamils are needed.

Sure it was brutal reaction. It was a reaction to what can only be described as a declaration of war on Sri Lanka by the Jaffna Tamil.

Shambala,

Tamils fought to 'change' things for 35 years since Ceylon's independence in 1948 through non-violent means. All the democratic means were put down and crushed so badly. That is when they turned to test out the 'punishment' method to the aggressor which is the SL thug government. They almost succeeded and if not for the $$$ thirsty world establishments that preferred 'cozy' relationship with Colombo over the human rights, we lost.

Please do not compare the South African apartheid government to the 'blood thirsty' xenophobic governements of Sri Lanka.

The majority community (sinhalese) in Sri Lanka has its own problems like 'child rape', 'sex tourism', corruption even against its own people. How can you expect true reconciliation can happen with such community in good sense. Even now, the SL government is more interested in uprooting and destroying tamils and tamil culture at the earliest than true reconciliation.

If it is true that you cannot bring a Slobodan Milosevic to treat bosnians and others equally, then it is equally true that you cannot bring MR and his coolies alongwith the hawkish buddhist monks to reconciliation. If Milosevic's only option is Hague, then MR and co have to go to Hague.

Libya's Gadaffi, Egypt's Mubarak and possibly Syria's Assad all are dictators and dictators do not go for reconciliation. Likewise MR is a dictator and he is not for true reconciliation.
