(Article: Re-reading a Saint: Review of "Interpreting Devotion")

Karaikal Ammaiyar is famous not only for her devotional songs but also for her music. She is deemed to be the 'Mother of South Indian Music' according to Professor Gnana Kulendran an Eelam Tamil who served in the Tanjavoor Tamil University. It is fully worth reading that book in Tamil which was acclaimed by the Tamilnadu State Government.

sorry to say, that karaikal Ammaiyar@Thilakavathi was misused by bramin community: Eversince she was neglected by her husban(Who married another lady)she was asked to walk by her head from Madurai to Thirunintravur(near Avadi/chennai?) she spent rest of her life@ the temple:It is anybody's guess what would have happened to her by the temple priests(Bramins)there: Except celebrating MANGO FESTIVAL @ Karaikal,no one from this town(where I live) trying the find the real "STORY" of Karaikal ammaiyar@ Thilakavathil
